The Innovative Model for Living™ was a collaborative effort between Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean, Virginia, and Moira Leite of M. Quinn Designs. Moira created a model apartment to showcase her concept of Beautiful Accessibility™.
Some of the key features included:
- Murphy Bed, to create more floor space when required
- step-less threshold doorways, for easier walking
- heated bathroom floor, for comfort
- easy-access bathroom, to make personal hygiene safer and more secure
- easy-access channeling kitchen, to help prepare meals safely and easily
- specialized lighting, to accommodate the aging eye and specific problems of macular degeneration and glaucoma
- remote-controlled window treatments, making it easy to customize the light and privacy without bending, reaching, or pulling.
These features are components in a home setting that can be used by anyone, regardless of their functional abilities, but are uniquely intended to support individuals as their capabilities change.
